Picture of the Day - 6/8/2010

We spent the day in Custer State Park, South Dakota, mainly photographing the wildlife there. The picture of the day was taken by Sheila of a mama white-tailed deer with little one. The baby was still walking very awkwardly, which means it was likely born just days ago. We were on Highway 16, the "Wildlife Loop" within the southern part of the park. We were able to rack up quite a list of wildlife spotted today - bison (with babies), wild mules, elk, lots of white-tailed deer, a jackrabbit, several wild turkeys, a meadowlark, turkey vultures, robins, red-winged blackbirds and pronghorn. Photographed with a Canon Powershot S3 IS compact camera zoomed at 10X and cropped for composition. Very mild sharpening and saturation applied using the new Adobe Lightroom 3 just released yesterday.
